The Essential: Bio

Everywhere I go in the world, I am identified as a Fashion Person.

And it doesn't matter what job I am holding at the time, whether it is that of a television producer, a writer, or a creative director, I am always asked: "Are you a fashion designer?" or "Are you in Fashion?"

Truth be known, I knew that fashion would always figure prominently in my psyche since I was 12.

But am I truly a Fashion Person?

I have a lot of respect for the industry and the people that are in it.  I see myself as floating above the surface, in it enough to get it, but not enough to deserve the label.  Which suits me just fine.  I learned it is important to love it, but also to have enough of a distance to maintain some objectivity.

Why would I think I would make a good fashion journo or blogger?  I am like most people. I have good days and bad days that affects how I dress and see myself.  My body image depends on how much laksa I have had. I go to the gym to fit into those jeans.

More than that, I go beyond the frivolity, the 'glamor' and the stuff.  Of course these are parts of the industry that makes it so exciting. Still, it is a multi billion dollar business that has very real economic and societal significance.  This platform allows one to chronicle changes in attitudes and viewpoints, track history, record the present, and project the future.

A little too cerebral?

Well, I have an good eye for details, a sharp taste for trends, and great nose for a story. And that has lead to the creation of this 'blog'.  I see it more as a Fashion Journal.  What interests me is what will serve you, the readers in a bigger way.

Do you see yourself in the writing? Do you see representation of your culture in fashion today?  Do products make sense to you? Are the industry leaders really listening to you the consumer? Are you looking for information about the industry?  Looking for a job?  Are you looking for a resource that will help your understanding?

The intention behind this blog is to empower its readers to make informed choices that suits them.  It also aims to serve the fashion industry and business in Asia by providing a platform for Asian Fashion Journalism.

I hope this blog will motivate thoughts and discussions for yourself.
